Preparing Our Hearts for Prayer and Fasting
Preparing Our Hearts for Prayer and Fasting
"If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me." – Jeremiah 29:13 (NLT)
Before we begin our week of prayer and fasting, we want to make sure our hearts are in the right place. Fasting is not just about giving something up—it’s about drawing closer to Jesus. It’s about intentionally creating space for Him to speak, move, and work in us.
F.A.S.T. – Our Preparation Points
F – Focus Our Purpose
Fasting without purpose is just skipping meals.
-
Why are we fasting this week?
-
What are we seeking God for—breakthrough, intimacy, clarity, healing, or spiritual renewal?
Let’s take time today to write down our personal reasons and maybe even share them with someone in our group to stay encouraged and focused.
A – Acknowledge Our Need for Cleansing
"Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me." – Psalm 51:10 (NLT)
Before we enter this 10 days of Prayer and Fasting, we want to repent and ask God to cleanse our hearts. Let's spend time in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal anything that may hinder us—sin, unforgiveness, pride, or distractions.
S – Set Our Spiritual and Practical Plan
-
Schedule time daily for prayer, Bible reading, and reflection.
-
Decide on the type of fast we will commit to (e.g., water only, Daniel fast, media fast, partial fast).
-
Set up a journal or notes to write down prayers, Scriptures, and what God shows us.
-
Consider accountability—someone to pray with or check in during the week.
T – Trust God and Commit the Week
"Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you." – Psalm 37:5 (NLT)
Surrender this coming 10 days to the Lord—not trying to perform or impress Him, but to be with Him. Ask Him to lead you, speak to you, and reveal Himself in a fresh way.
