Fearless Bravery

Tonight, I was listening to Pastor John Ortberg speak about fearless bravery , and it reminded me of the bold prayer of Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:10: "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory…" When we were saved, God brought us out of darkness and into His Kingdom. But living in a broken world means we still wrestle with shadows of fear, pride, insecurity. Thankfully, God is patient and keeps working in us. Every time we trust Him and face those dark places, we enlarge our spiritual territory. We let more of His Kingdom reign in our hearts. So, what’s holding you back from that growth? What are you avoiding? A hard conversation, a task, a truth, an emotion? What are you afraid of?  Is it a bill, medical result, email from your employer? What’s the Worst That Can Happen? – Fear often grows in the dark. Shine a light on it. What are you really afraid of? Can it separate you from God’s love? (Spoiler alert, nothing can!) Take an Action. Send the...

The Secret Place

We often look up to our pastors who are so prayerful, so eloquent, and think, “They probably pray all the time,” or “They’re such powerful prayer warriors.” And while it’s good to admire their devotion, we can sometimes end up feeling frustrated with how we pray. But the worst way to respond to that frustration is to NOT PRAY at all . Jesus said in Matthew 6:6 : “...pray to your Father who is in the secret place. Then your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you openly.” There’s something powerful that happens when we encounter the Holy Spirit in that secret place . Now, I know some of the moms here might say, “What secret place? There’s no such thing in my house!” But let’s be clear: The secret place isn’t necessarily a physical room (though having one is a beautiful idea). It’s something deeper. It’s a sacred space in our hearts where we commune with the Lord. It might be a short conversation at a traffic light, a deep plea during a 10-minute break, or a tearful cry in th...

Chatgpt and the Bible

Honoring the Role of the Holy Spirit in Bible Study One of the most important things to remember when using ChatGPT for Bible study is that it is a tool, not a teacher . As Christians, we believe that the Holy Spirit is our ultimate Teacher and Guide (John 14:26), leading us into all truth and convicting our hearts through the Word of God. ChatGPT can assist with understanding background information, context, and scholarly interpretations, but it cannot and should not replace the personal work of the Holy Spirit in our lives . What ChatGPT Can Help With: Explaining the historical and cultural context of a Bible passage. Clarifying complex theological terms or concepts. Providing summaries of scholarly views or denominational interpretations. Suggesting reflection or application questions to guide your personal study. Helping organize or rephrase thoughts that you’ve already reflected on. What ChatGPT Should Not Do: Replace the voice or conviction of the Holy Spirit. Create personal re...

Understanding the Word “Chose” in 2 Thessalonians 2:13–14

2 Thessalonians 2:13–14 (NLT) – “As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth.” What Does “Chose” Mean? The word "chose" (Greek: haireō or eklegomai in similar passages) emphasizes: God’s initiative —He lovingly reaches out to humanity. His purpose to set apart people for salvation and holiness. A divine calling that invites people to respond to His truth. It does not mean: That God randomly picks certain people and rejects others without reason. That people have no free will in responding to His call. “Chose” ≠ Favoritism Acts 10:34 (NLT) – “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism.” Romans 2:11 (NLT) – “For God does not show favoritism.” God’s character is just and impartial . His choice is based on...

Chosen with Purpose

Honoring God with My Life

2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 (NLT) "So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ." Reflection In this passage, Paul shows the deep love and concern he has for the Thessalonians, praying that they would live in a way that reflects their calling in Christ. He doesn’t just pray for their well-being or success, but for them to live lives that honor God through their actions, prompted by their faith. This speaks to me deeply because I am reminded that my actions and choices, big or small, are meant to reflect Christ’s love and bring glory to His name. 🔹 Living a Life Worthy of His Call Every day, I am faced with choices that test whether I will live ...

Responding with Love and Patience

Preparing Our Hearts for Prayer and Fasting

Preparing Our Hearts for Prayer and Fasting "If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me." – Jeremiah 29:13 (NLT) Before we begin our week of prayer and fasting, we want to make sure our hearts are in the right place. Fasting is not just about giving something up—it’s about drawing closer to Jesus. It’s about intentionally creating space for Him to speak, move, and work in us. F.A.S.T. – Our Preparation Points F – Focus Our Purpose Fasting without purpose is just skipping meals. Why are we fasting this week? What are we seeking God for—breakthrough, intimacy, clarity, healing, or spiritual renewal? Let’s take time today to write down our personal reasons and maybe even share them with someone in our group to stay encouraged and focused. A – Acknowledge Our Need for Cleansing "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me." – Psalm 51:10 (NLT) Before we enter this 10 days of Prayer and Fasting, we want to repent and ask God to cl...

Staying Awake and Sober in Christ

📖 1 Thessalonians 5:6, NIV “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep,  but let us be awake  and sober. ” Reflection As a believer, I am called to live differently from the world—to be awake and sober in my faith . Paul warns against spiritual complacency and urges me to stay watchful, focused, and prepared for Christ’s return . 🔹 Staying Awake Spiritually – A Life of Vigilance There are times when I feel spiritually dull—going through the motions without real passion. But Paul reminds me that I must be alert in my walk with God. When I stop praying regularly, my heart drifts. When I neglect God’s Word, my faith weakens. When I let sin slip in, I become blind to its dangers. ✅ I will stay spiritually awake by prioritizing prayer, reading God’s Word, and being sensitive to His voice. 🔹 Being Sober Spiritually – A Life of Self-Control Soberness means being clear-minded and disciplined in my faith. If I allow distractions, temptations, or w...

Living in Holiness, Waiting in Hope

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NLT) "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever." Reflection Paul’s words in 1 Thessalonians 4 remind me that my faith isn’t just about the here and now—it’s about living in a way that prepares me for eternity. 🔹 Holiness Prepares Me for His Coming Earlier in this chapter (verses 1-12), Paul urges me to live in a way that pleases God—avoiding sexual sin, loving others, and living a life of integrity. This isn’t just about good behavior; it’s about being ready for Christ’s return . If Jesus were to come today, would I be living in a way that honors Him? 🔹 Hope Overcomes Fear and Grief Paul shifts to talk about tho...

Walking in Purity: Overcoming Sexual Temptation

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:3-6 (NLT) "God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor—not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before." Reflection: Sexual temptation is one of the greatest struggles many Christians face. The world normalizes impurity, but God calls me to holiness and honor . Paul’s words remind me that purity is not just about saying no to sin—it’s about saying yes to God's best for my life. But how do I actually fight against sexual temptation ? Here are some practical steps: 🔹 Guard My Mind – Impurity often starts with what I allow into my thoughts. Movies, social media, and even casual conversations can plant seeds of temptation. ✅ I will be mindful of what I watch, read, and listen t...

Strengthened by Faith, United in Love

Standing Strong in Faith

1 Thessalonians 3:5 (NLT) "That is why, when I could bear it no longer, I sent Timothy to find out whether your faith was still strong. I was afraid that the tempter had gotten the best of you and that our work had been useless." Reflection Paul’s concern for the Thessalonians speaks to a reality I also face—worrying about my own faith and the faith of those I care about. Just as Paul feared that trials and temptations might shake the Thessalonians, I sometimes wonder how I (or others) will hold up in difficult seasons. 🔹 Faith Tested by Trials – Life brings hardships that can shake my trust in God—financial struggles, health issues, disappointments. But trials don’t have to weaken my faith; they can strengthen it if I hold onto God’s promises. Instead of fearing that difficulties will drive me away from God, I must see them as opportunities to grow deeper in Him (James 1:2-4). 🔹 Spiritual Warfare is Real – Paul recognized the enemy’s role in trying to lead believers...

Living with Integrity

Faith, Love, and Endurance

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 1:3 (NLT) "As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ." Reflection: Paul’s words to the Thessalonians remind me that my faith in Christ should shape how I live. He highlights three essential qualities: faithful work, loving deeds, and enduring hope —all of which I need in my daily walk with God. 🔹 Faithful Work – Living Out My Faith Faith is more than just believing; it should result in action. I don’t serve God to earn His love, but because I already have it. Do I trust God enough to step out in faith when He calls me to serve? Am I faithful in the small things, knowing they matter in His kingdom? 🔹 Loving Deeds – Serving with the Right Heart My service to others should be motivated by love, not obligation. Do I show love even when it’s inconvenient? Am I patient and kind, reflecting Christ’s love to those around me? ...

Faithful in the Background

Question: In Colossians 4:2, How is prayer and alert mind with thankful heart related/connected?

In Colossians 4:2 , Paul instructs believers: "Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart." (NLT) At first glance, these may seem like separate ideas, but they are deeply connected. 1. An Alert Mind Keeps Prayer Focused Being alert in prayer means staying spiritually awake and aware. It’s easy to fall into routine prayers that lack passion or to become distracted by daily concerns. An alert mind helps me: Stay engaged in my prayers instead of just going through the motions. Be aware of spiritual battles and pray intentionally. Recognize God’s voice and direction as I pray. Example : Instead of simply praying, “Lord, bless my day,” I can pray, “Lord, help me recognize the opportunities You give me today and respond with faith.” 2. A Thankful Heart Keeps Prayer Grounded in Faith A thankful heart shifts my focus from what I lack to what God has already done. Thankfulness fuels my faith because when I remember God’s past faithfulness, I trust Him m...

Devoted to Prayer, No Matter the Circumstances

Parenting 03: Enforcing Obedience Without Exasperation

Practical Rules for Enforcing Obedience Without Exasperation As parents, enforcing obedience is necessary, but it should be done in a way that nurtures rather than frustrates our children. Below are practical rules that help guide children to obey while maintaining a loving and respectful relationship. 1. Set Clear Expectations 🔹 Why? Children need to understand what is expected of them to obey willingly. Confusion leads to frustration. 🔹 How? ✔ Use simple and specific instructions (e.g., “Put your toys in the basket before bedtime” instead of “Clean up”). ✔ Explain the why behind rules so they understand the purpose. ✔ Use consistent wording for house rules so there is no ambiguity. ✔ Write rules down or use visual reminders for younger kids. 2. Be Consistent with Consequences 🔹 Why? Inconsistency confuses children and makes them test boundaries. 🔹 How? ✔ Follow through on consequences every time—don’t threaten what you won’t enforce. ✔ Keep consequences proport...
