Raising Kids in God’s Way

Colossians 3:20-21 (NLT)

"Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged."

Reflection

As a parent, I want to raise my daughter in a way that honors God. Paul’s words remind me that parenting is about both guiding my child in obedience and showing her love and encouragement.

🔹 Encouraging Obedience with Love – I don’t want my child to obey just because she has to, but because she trusts me. If she sees that I obey God out of love, she will learn to obey me with the same heart. Obedience should not feel like a burden but a way to walk in God’s blessings.

🔹 Disciplining with Grace – I must be careful that my discipline does not lead to frustration. If I react in anger or harshness, I may push her away rather than lead her to Christ. Instead, I need to correct with patience, listen with understanding, and guide with wisdom.

🔹 Encouragement Over Criticism – It’s easy to focus on my child’s mistakes, but Paul reminds me to be a parent who builds up, not tears down. My words and actions should show my child that she is loved, valued, and capable of growth.

🔹 Modeling a Godly Example – My child learn more from my actions than my words. If I want her to follow Christ, I must live out my faith daily—praying, reading the Bible, and treating her with kindness and respect.

Application

✅ I will encourage my child to obey by teaching her why obedience pleases God.
✅ I will discipline with love, not anger, correcting to train, not to punish harshly.
✅ I will speak words of encouragement that build my child’s confidence and faith.
✅ I will model Christlike obedience in my own life so my child can follow my example.

God calls us to raise children
with love, patience, and encouragement,
just as He parents us.
